Safeguarding
Abbey Woods Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We all work together to create and maintain a safe, happy environment for the children at our school and take action when there are child welfare concerns.
The Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) in our school is Mrs Sophie Charter. She can be contacted via the main school office (see Get in touch) or via headteacher@abbeywoods.anthemtrust.uk
You can view our Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy below.
Online safety
Online safety at Abbey Woods is all about measures to keep children, and adults working with children, safe while using digital technologies. At school this can include computers, laptops and tablet computers, and at home it can also include devices such as games consoles (Xbox, Playstation, Nintendo Switch), mobile phones and anything else which allows interactive digital communication.
The online environment is an integral part of children’s lives, so it is important that we work together as a school community to ensure that our children have a healthy relationship with technology and support them to use it responsibly.
Our approach is informed by our E-Safety Policy, which you can access below.
Social media
Increasingly, children are using social media apps - there are so many now, it can be difficult to keep up! To understand a bit more about these platforms, it's worth taking a look at the Net Aware website, which allows you to search for any social media app and it will then explain what that app is used for, the official age rating and how safe it is for your child to access.

Taking and using photos at school
When your child starts Abbey Woods Academy, we ask parents/carers to complete a permission form to allow images of your child to be published by the school on the school's website and social media accounts, in newsletters and other publications, and sometimes promotional materials. The photos may also be used for similar purposes by our Trust, Anthem.
You can change your parental preference at any time by contacting the school office.
Taking and using of photos or other digital images by parents and carers
We are happy for parents and carers to take photos and videos at school events for personal use, but please could we remind you that these images must not be shared or put online (e.g. on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc) unless they are only of your own children. This is to safeguard all members of the school community.
